Sub-Zero and Wolf Kitchen Design Contest 2009

 
The kitchen design, was to be part of a large open plan area, which would also have to form part of the living and dining area, so careful consideration had to given to the day to day requirements of the family, since this was to become the most frequently used area of the home.

The clients brief was to have a real wow factor from the kitchen design, so when not being used, it would be a stand alone design statement. It also had to be a practical ergonomic working kitchen, allowing social interaction was also high up on the wish list, since they had regular dinner parties and lots of family and friends who would frequently visit.

The main design of the kitchen is a completely free standing 4 metre diameter island. Within the working centre of the island everything is at hand, this ergonomic solution meant that in such a big open plan room, all the main requirements, fridge freezer, oven, hobs, sink and storage are no more then a step away. The circular ergonomic design also complements the natural twisting movements of the body.


The outer circumference is wonderfully sociable and invites people to sit, chat, interact, or just watch the cook at work, with a glass of wine or cup of coffee at hand.

The design has a naturally flowing and harmonious presence within the room, the recessed feature lighting generates warmth and a comfortable mood throughout the large open plan area.

Electric touch drawers on the inside, state of the art appliances, including Sub zero – wolf, and Zip really set the standard. Colour temperature changing led tap is a fun feature.

The completely bespoke design utilises composites of marine ply, wood and hdf, all hand formed, enabling the concept design to be realised. Using deep Candy metallic lacquer, animates the rounded, curved elements of the furniture, adding a whole different dimension to the surface design. Seamless volcanic worktop, with inlaid cracked ice bar reinforces the organic structure of the design.
